The Private Wealth Management business at Neuberger Berman oversees approximately $50 billion in assets for individuals, families and charitable institutions. Investment Strategy at Neuberger Berman PWM leads the investment process developing comprehensive portfolio solutions including the development of capital market expectations and strategic asset allocation models, tactical asset allocation recommendations in conjunction with institutional asset management leadership, manager research and selection across a broad range of asset classes and strategies, portfolio construction and risk management. The firm seeks a Head of Investment Strategy who can the lead Investment Strategy Group in carrying out its mandate as well as the execution of high priority strategic initiatives associated with broadening and deepening the investment process and recommendations provided internally to client-facing teams and externally to clients.

The role has three primary areas of focus: Investment Leadership, Management, and Client-facing activities.

Investment Leadership

  • Further define and develop PWM’s approach to comprehensive portfolio solutions and the integration of a broad range of proprietary and third party investment strategies into core portfolios

  • Ensure the team is operating at the highest standards including the disciplined implementation of the investment processes across the range of portfolio solutions and in the identification of high quality investment opportunities

  • Lead the communications and training of all client-facing teams with respect to the investment process and recommended portfolio solutions and strategies within portfolio solutions

  • Lead the implementation of a robust risk management framework and strategy performance evaluation

  • Lead global product strategy

  • Participate in relevant investment committees and develop relationships with investment leadership across NB

  • Develop relationships with client-facing advisors and investment managers as an internal point of contact to provide expertise and insights into the investment process and strategies

Management and Administration

  • Day-to-day management of the team

  • Development of the team including attracting and retaining top talent

  • Administrative responsibilities including planning, budgeting, employee reviews, etc.

  • Participate in overall leadership of PWM as a member of the PWM leadership team

Client Related Activities

  • Regularly represent PWM in internal and external forums

  • Provide thought leadership internally and externally via presentations, videos, written communications, etc.

  • Work with select clients to understand their unique needs and develop solutions to help them achieve their unique investment objectives

Metrics for Success

  • Investment performance relative to benchmarks and peers

  • Delivery of key strategic and business initiatives

  • Hiring and retention of investment professionals and other team members

  • Execution of management and administration responsibilities

  • Execution of client and communications related activities

Requirements:

  • 20+ years of experience in the Financial Services industry in asset management/wealth management with a proven leadership track record.

  • A deep background in investment strategy including experience in capital market expectations and strategic asset allocation, tactical asset allocation, manager research and selection across a broad range of asset classes and strategies, portfolio construction and risk management.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with ability to communicate and influence across a broad range of sophistication levels

  • Management experience, strong people development capabilities and experience working in a complex organization

  • Experience in multi manager/strategy portfolio management including private equity and/or manager research including alternatives preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree required, CFA, CAIA or MBA preferred
