Neuberger Berman Tax Manager - Private Equity Real Estate in New York, New York

Summary:

Seeking an experienced tax professional with a focus on Real Estate investing (REITs),Private Equity Funds, Residential Mortgages, and Real Estate Secondaries to lead the tax department through a series of RE Private Equity Funds focused on making entity level investments in real estate operating companies, and holdings interests in Real Estate focused investment managers.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing tax compliance process outsourced to a Big 4 accounting firm, including review of federal, state, and foreign tax reporting, assistance supporting book – tax differences, reviewing K-1 allocations and disclosures for accuracy and completeness.

  • Work closely with Almanac CFO, Investment Teams, Legal and IR Teams related to Fund structuring, including tax modeling, AIV structures for foreign investors, and creation of marketing documentation.

  • Participate in the deal due diligence process, including reviewing deal structure, calculating purchase price allocations, and consulting with Investment Teams and Deal Counsel on various tax matters.

  • Advise Investment Teams on tax impact of various transactions, restructurings, and Portfolio Company activities.

  • Support Fund Controllers related to financial reporting in tax sensitive structures, including leveraged corporate blockers, REITs, and foreign investor structures.

  • Communicate with Portfolio Company management and their tax advisors related to tax positions and Fund reporting.

  • Communicate directly with both prospective and existing investors to provide tax reporting, respond to queries, and market new products.

  • Oversee quarterly REIT compliance engagement for 14 private REITs.

  • Draw upon the resources, both internally within NB, and externally with tax advisors, to develop and document tax guidelines, policies, and positions.

  • Research and document technical tax issues on an ad hoc basis.

  • Calculate corporate estimated payments, manage internal REIT compliance processes.

  • Manage, research and resolve tax notices.

  • Prepare tax forms for elections, dissolutions, and other required filings.

  • Prepare annual taxable income estimates related to Management Team carried interest and equity interests.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, CPA or advanced tax degree highly preferred.

  • Prior Big 4 and / or Private Equity Experience in similar role, minimum of five years.

  • Knowledge of tax compliance of Real Estate Investment Trusts is required.

  • Experience with inbound investor tax structures for investing in US Real Estate is desired.

  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to comfortably communicate up / down / across the organization is necessary.

  • Team player, willing to promote the ability of the Almanac Finance Organization to be a value-added resource to Investment Teams, IR, and Legal groups.

  • Self-motivated, strong organization skills, ability to manage priorities and multiple tasks simultaneously.

Compensation Details

The salary range for this role is $120,000-$160,000. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in New York City. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs. This job is also eligible for a discretionary bonus.
