Summary:

Marquee Brands is a fast growing and dynamic consumer brand-focused private equity business that is currently seeking a Vice President with a passion for investing as well as a deep understanding of consumer brands to join its investment team. Marquee seeks to create a unique and highly diversified portfolio of consumer brands for investors. Marquee’s current portfolio consists of 16 brands spanning home & culinary, fashion and active, outdoor & streetwear and includes brands such as Martha Stewart, Sur La Table, BCBG Max Azria, Ben Sherman and Dakine. Post acquisition, our investment team is highly involved in the execution of our value creation initiatives, as capital structure management and other business development / capital markets activities.

The ideal candidate will have a deep passion for consumer brands and be eager to hone their investment analysis, transaction execution and post-transaction operating capabilities. The ability to think analytically is a must but the ability to think creatively is also highly valued and no voice or idea is too small to be heard. This will be a very dynamic role, where the Vice President may be modeling investment projection scenarios one day and negotiating deal terms with a prospective licensee the next. The Vice President should expect to gain a substantial amount of both investment and operations experience. Also, the investment team is small and tight-knit and Vice Presidents will receive significant direct interaction with senior investment team leaders, portfolio company management as well as direct exposure to key third-party stakeholders. Finally, the Neuberger Berman Private Equity platform is a highly entrepreneurial environment where employees are often empowered to think outside the box and develop new investment strategies and the Vice President is expected to play a meaningful role in that as well.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and conduct comprehensive due diligence on potential brand investments across various sectors of the consumer brand landscape

  • Perform in-depth analysis and market research on different sectors of consumer branded products

  • Lead third-party diligence including but not limited to financial, legal, HR, intellectual property diligence etc.

  • Create Investment Committee material and similar presentation materials

  • Develop in-depth analytic financial models, including for valuation, budget and planning purposes

  • Negotiate key deal terms with various third-parties including seller as well as potential strategic partners for brand acquisitions

  • Source attractive brand acquisitions for the Marquee Brands portfolio company

  • Support Marquee’s operating team on business development and high priority strategic initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Must have excellent academic credentials with top undergraduate GPA; MBA is a plus

  • 5+ years’ experience in related field (private equity and/or investment banking). Buyside experience strongly preferred

  • Strong communication skills and ability to articulate an opinion and present ideas succinctly, orally and in writing

  • Experience managing and providing detailed guidance to a team of junior associates

  • Ability to multi-task with a fine-tuned attention-to-detail

  • Experience financial modeling and valuation using discounted cash flow (CF), public comparables, precedent transactions, and LBO model; Bloomberg; and CapitalIQ

  • Strong technical foundations in corporate finance and accounting

  • Initiative and creativity in approach to problem solving; demonstrated experience in conducting research and interacting with others to develop solutions

  • Strong judgment, critical thinking and analytic skills

  • Team-player attitude and a desire to work on a wide range of projects

  • Strong interest in private equity and consumer brands

Compensation Details

The salary range for this role is $185,000-$200,000. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in New York City. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs. This job is also eligible for a discretionary bonus.
