Neuberger Berman Lead Engagement Manager Global Sustainable Equities in United States

As the successful candidate, you will be a member of the Global Sustainable Equity Team, and will make significant contributions to the structure, consistency and selection of material topics for the team’s corporate engagement efforts applied to all holdings in the UCITS and clients’ mandates under management. NB has a strong focus on engagement for broad and deep corporate insights, to push companies for enhancements in transparency, policies and behaviour if deemed necessary, and embedding relevant and material ESG and SDG perspectives. At NB we believe that effective engagement supports results, profiles and valuation. As an engagement manager you will have impact in a broad international setting. You will be expected to work closely with the team’s equity portfolio managers (PMs), analysts and our client-PM, but also with NB’s ESG Investing, central research and reporting teams, other investment teams and multiple external organisations that provide data and research. Your engagement efforts will be reflected in internal and external write-ups on individual portfolio holdings, dedicated engagement publications, client communication and presentations, and in close alignment with NB’s proxy voting process and policies. Given the importance of engagement, the breadth of activities in this role and exposure to in- and external senior leadership, sufficient and relevant work experience is a prerequisite for this position. NB and the team will provide mentorship from its seasoned professionals, collaboration with many business units across the organization and investments in further development of required skills for your opportunities to grow within the team and the broader Neuberger Berman asset management business. Primary responsibilities:

  • Creation and maintenance of engagement plans and targets for all portfolio holdings together with the Global Sustainable Equity PMs and analysts, based on fully integrated material ESG and SDG perspectives, including high profile direct engagements with company management teams and board members

  • Working with the relevant Portfolio Manager’s, Analysts and NB ESG Team to develop and use engagement data, management and reporting tools to support the investment process and contribute to the evolution of new engagement driven sustainable equity strategies and products. This includes the continues innovation our approach to stewardship in a manner that goes beyond maintaining regulatory compliance

  • Collaborating with the Client, Marketing, and RFP teams with stewardship/engagement/ESG-related requests, client reporting on ESG, ESG investor due-diligence questions and ad-hoc requests, as well as collaborating with research and quantitative analysts to generate ESG insights and present these internally and externally

  • Stay abreast of industry and regulatory trends to work and reports on most relevant engagement topics and targets, and represent the firm as required at relevant industry events and in client interactions

Preferred qualifications and profile for the candidate:

  • Undergraduate degree with academic credentials and a minimum of 5-8 years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience in ESG, sustainability or impact/SDG investing, including intense exposure to and cooperation with PMs and analysts

  • Proficiency in ESG and sustainability data, frameworks, rating providers, reporting, and industry best practices

  • Demonstrated expertise in engagement, corporate governance and proxy voting

  • Familiarity with proxy voting advisors and processes

  • Preferably some experience of investment processes

  • Able to articulate financial and ESG performance

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other data analytics

  • Able to independently analyse with strong verbal and written communication skills,

  • Able to synthesize research and concepts into actionable and presentable deliverables

  • Experience and comfort interacting with senior leaders and clients

  • Accountable, with a strong sense of professionalism and integrity
